Why Study in Indonesia?

Studying in Indonesia is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Not only receiving a qualified education, but also acclimating with the culture around you on a daily basis. The environment surrounding you is stunning, and there are many places to travel and visit while you are studying. Indonesia is a beautiful country located in Southeast Asia, and it is the world’s largest island country, situated between the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is a home to around 260 million people, which makes Indonesia becomes the fourth largest in the world.


Nearly 3.000 public and private institutions of higher education exist in Indonesia, including around 120 state universities, which provide wide variety of universities to be choose for students. There are four types of higher education institutions including universities, institutes, academics and polytechnics.

Academic Year

The academic year at most universities has two semesters, even and odd, each 16 weeks long and followed by exams. The academic year begins in early September and finishes in June.


Bahasa Indonesia (Bahasa) is the national language, but there are over 700 other indigenous languages that are spoken in Indonesia. Many people speak both Bahasa and the local languages they grew up around, making them bilingual or even multilingual. Students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of Indonesia, perhaps even picking up the national language. When you are at university, there will be students and professors that can speak English fluently.

Why study in Bandung?

Bandung, capital of Indonesia’s west Java province, is a large city set amid volcanoes and tea plantations. It’s known for colonial and art deco architecture, a lively, university-town feel and its 768m above the sea level.

Bandung, also known as the Paris of Java, is the third largest city in Indonesia. Located in between the mountains with beautiful architecture, cooler climate and just a few hours south of Jakarta, this city is a popular tourist destination. Bandung is a really perfect place to live. The weather is nice and cool, around 24°C/73° on average. You can find a lot of delicious food from various range of prices. This city is surrounded by volcanic mountains and lies on a river basin. There are many attractions around the city, like golf courses, the zoo and outlet malls.

Many people from the city of Jakarta go to Bandung for the weekend to have a fun getaway. Because it is more accessible from Jakarta by the Cipularang Highway that caused a good accessible in local economic growth.

How to Reach Bandung

It is quite easy to reach Bandung. On your journey you’ll see the wondrous views of the Parahyangan (land of God) landscape, which reboots your sense of adventure. There are many modes of transportation to choose from:

By Air

Using the airplane is the fastest way to reach Bandung (BDO)

By Train

This is an ideal choice if you enjoy good view along the journey where your eyes will be spoilt by the beautiful lavish green of undulating hills, terraced paddy field and tea plantations.

By Bus and Shuttle Car

There are also convenient buses ready at Bus Station such (Cicaheum and Leuwipanjang)

Widyatama University is private university that is owned by Widyatama Foundation. History of Widyatama was started when Bandung Institute of Accounting (IAB) in Bachelor Degree program was established in March 1973 on the initiative of Mrs. Prof. Dr. Koesbandijah Abdoel Kadir, Msi. Ak, CA., a professional accountant, whose all her life as a lecturer had been dedicated to education. In 1976, the foundation as a caretaker founded Bandung Management Institute (IMB) offering bachelor degree in Management Studies, both institutes (IAB and IMB) became Bandung School of Accounting and Business Management, which on 3 September 1979 was named Bandung School of Economics (STIEB).

The school’s existence was widely recognized by the society, accordingly, it encouraged the Foundation to set up other institutions namely: Widyatama School of Engineering (STTW, 1995); Bandung School of Language (STBB, 1996); School of Visual and Communication Designs (STDKV, 1999); Widyatama Post Graduate Management Program (MM-Widyatama, 2000); and Widyatama Accounting Professional Program (PPA-Widyatama, 2004).


It was established by Ministerial Decree on 2 August 2001, integrating the schools mentioned above. The integration was aimed to produce more qualified and more competitive graduates, more focused educational management. Widyatama University’s next step is devoting all-out, serious and consistent effort to gain internationally recognized standard of educational service ISO 9001:2008 (upgrading process to ISO 9001:2015)
